
Trump is not only imposing import tariffs to protect his own American products and American production, but is also trying to launch a visa program for wealthy foreigners that would allow them to reside permanently in the US without a lengthy procedure, in the hope that these people would then also invest in the US.
Switzerland also has legal bases in its Foreign Nationals and Integration Act to enable non-EU foreign nationals to stay in Switzerland and work and ultimately have access to the real estate market including flat-rate taxation.
European countries also offer opportunities ranging from visas and residency to passports and naturalization through investments in real estate, business purchases, and bank accounts. Simply slandering these non-EU citizens as potential tax evaders and thus attempting to torpedo these coveted visas and residency is damaging to Europe, which is in competition not only with the United States but also with Caribbean and Pacific tax havens.
